A New Year. A New Look.

Now that we're officially back into the swing of things after a busy, yet wonderful, holiday season, I find myself thinking about new year's resolutions.  Admit it, there's something about this time of year that is inspiring - maybe you're inspired to shed those extra holiday pounds or redecorate your guest room (something you've been putting off for years!)... or maybe you're like me and want 2012 to be the year that you dress better & invest in premium denims.

Let me start by giving you a quick glimpse into my denim background:  9 months ago, when I started working at Bliss, I bought my first pair of designer denim - a pair of AG Charlotte straight-leg jeans.  Up until that point, I had no idea how crucial a great pair of jeans was in pulling my entire look together.  Now I can proudly say that in addition to AG, I own a bunch of J Brand's and a few pairs of Paige and Joe's Jeans too.  I love them ALL.  My denim wardrobe underwent a total transformation and this is something I'm eager to carry over into the new year with renewed vigor and focus.

Here are my denim resolutions for 2012 that you should try too:

Play with patterns:  No doubt about it, Spring is going to be full of color and print - and denim is no exception!  I have always loved my wardrobe classics - i.e. dark wash skinny jeans - but after falling in love with a pair of leopard-print Joe's Jeans at the Trade Shows in NYC this past September, I knew I had to branch out.  The jeans came in a few weeks ago & I've already worn them twice!  I know you must be thinking that I can check this one off my list, but I want to push my limits even more and try other prints too - including these Citizen's of Humanity Floral Jeans that were featured in Vogue recently.

Try a new cut:  For a while now, my go-to jeans have been my J Brand's Maria high-rise skinnies in a dark, stretchy wash.  They are easy, classic and look great tucked into my Frye boots.  But lately, its been a flare or wide-leg jean that stands out to me.  It's a completely different proportion than I'm used to and changes the game as far as shoes go... but I'm up for the challenge.  Not quite convinced?  These AG Lula flare jeans with the adorable braided detail are sure to change your mind!

Out with the old:  Cleaning out, in most cases, is much easier said than done - especially when it comes to clothes.  If you're anything like me, I tend to keep clothes around "just in case" or because they were expensive... or maybe even because they were worn for a special occasion.  This year, I'm taking the time to thoroughly go through all my jeans.  Now that I know how amazing a great pair of jeans can make me feel, the bar has been set when it comes to my other jeans.  Moving forward, I'm going to stop wasting closet space & only make room for pairs that I love!

Mother knows best:  Our newest denim line at Bliss is Mother.  This breakout brand was established in 2010 and has already become a highly-respected & iconic label in the denim fashion scene.  (Co-founders Lela Tillem and Tim Kaeding formerly worked as Head of Design at 7 for All Mankind and President of Sales at Citizen's of Humanity.)  Honestly, I don't think I truly understood how fast this brand has caught on until our trip to New York - nearly every buyer and sales rep at Coterie last September were wearing Mother denim!  Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to wear something just because everyone else is... but after touching their oh-so soft denim and seeing how great these jeans look on, I'm hooked.  I will be adding Mother denim to my wardrobe this year!

What are your denim resolutions for 2012?  Will you be joining me in exploring printed denim, trying a new cut, or adding a new denim line to your wardrobe?  Whatever your goals may be, let us help - we hope to see you soon!
