Baby Bliss

The Countdown Is On...

With each day that passes in October, I've been gearing up for maternity leave. Yes, I'm having a baby boy - due in just one week!I've never felt more excited (and nervous - who am I kidding!) about this new chapter in my life.

It's funny though... because amongst all the prepping and planning for baby, I find myself getting sentimental about leaving Bliss for a couple months. For a while now, this blog and our website have been my main focus. Plus, I'm really going to miss seeing the lovely ladies of Bliss on a daily basis! Transitioning to the sidelines may be hard at first, but I feel confident that Bliss will be in good hands while I'm away.

Meet Laura. Or maybe you already have - she's been working in our Portland store for about a year now! For the past month I've been training her and I know she's ready & eager for the job ahead.

Indigo Bliss!

A few weeks ago Angie and I attended Coterie, the largest trade show for Women's Apparel on the east coast as well as Designers & Agents, where we find some of our most sought after collections including Epice, The Pendleton Portland Collection and Prairie Underground to name a few. The September show is always one of the busiest of the year and the most difficult because it is booming in the store and it is so hard for me to step away, but alas, duty calls!

This show was by far one of the most inspiring I have been to in a while! We left bright and early Monday morning arriving at our destination just around lunch time. After a quick bite to eat at Wichcraft, which is on the first floor of the Starrett Lehigh Center where d&a is housed, we headed on up to start our day!

I was immediately wowed by Pendleton Portland's first Spring collection. I wasn't sure how a brand that really encompassed the fall and winter months could pull off a Spring collection, but they nailed it. Their printed silk pieces featuring Pendleton's iconic patterns with a modern twist, literally made our hearts skip a beat. Right next door, The Little River Sock Mill out of Fort Payne, Alabama blew us away with their organic cotton socks in shades of blue and cream. Their packaging and styling was the cutest we have seen in a while! We cannot wait to get these in for Spring!

We started Coterie off Tuesday morning with two of our biggest t-shirt lines, Velvet by Graham & Spencer and Splendid. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. Both collections were packed with soft shades of indigo and natural hues. This is the first place we really saw the denim on denim trend carrying into knitwear, one of the biggest trends for Spring 2014. From here on out, every line we saw played off of the many shades of blues found in denim, styling indigo dyed tees and sweaters back to blue jeans.

Needless to say I was in indigo heaven! Those of you that know me or have worked with me in the store know that I have an affinity for denim....I eat, sleep and breathe denim. (I remember blue jeans that customers bought three years ago!) And furthermore, blue is my favorite color of all time. This Spring, blue is indeed the new black and I could not be happier!

Feeling Fall-ish?

We Sure Are!

Nothing gets us in the mood for fall like Frye boots, leather handbags, denim staples and swoon-worthy sweaters. Not to mention, the changing leaves and pumpkin spice lattes that have us more than invested in the new season.

Meet Chelsey

The Assistant Manager in our Portsmouth Store

Chelsey has been with the Bliss team just over a year. She worked in our Portland store before venturing down to Portsmouth. We love working with her - she's funny, always smiling and has a great sense of style. We've enjoyed getting to know her and we want you to as well!

How long have you worked at Bliss?

I've been working for Bliss since September 2012. I was an avid Bliss shopper and admirer, so thankfully the girls scooped me up when they heard that I was looking for a part-time job! I was promoted to assistant manager this past summer. I was more than excited to be a part of the Portsmouth team, especially because it has made me closer to my boyfriend and Boston - which I try to visit whenever I get the chance.

Describe your personality in three words.

Kind. Eclectic. Loyal.

What's your favorite thing about being an assistant manager?

Being an assistant manager has given me the opportunity to build closer relationships with all of the wonderful ladies & gents who walk through the Bliss doors. We have the best customers and it makes everyday a pleasure!

On a typical work day, you will find me wearing...

High waisted denim and a Splendid, CP Shades, or Velvet top. During the fall, I feel lost without one of my Chan Luu scarves - they are my go to accessory. The tawny portcolor is my favorite, although you can't go wrong with all the color options!

It's (finally) boot season. What pair of Frye boots do you wear most often? And what pair is on your wish list?

I have sworn by my Frye Melissa Button boots in dark brown, but I'm ready to add another pair to my collection. I have my eye on the Jet Engineer Tall! No joke, I'm in love with these boots.

What's your go-to lunch spot in Portsmouth?

Easy! Ceres bakery - just a short walk from the shop. Sandwiches with homemade bread and avocado, count me in! There is always friendly service and smiling faces.
