Meet Chelsey

The Assistant Manager in our Portsmouth Store

Chelsey has been with the Bliss team just over a year. She worked in our Portland store before venturing down to Portsmouth. We love working with her - she's funny, always smiling and has a great sense of style. We've enjoyed getting to know her and we want you to as well!

How long have you worked at Bliss?

I've been working for Bliss since September 2012. I was an avid Bliss shopper and admirer, so thankfully the girls scooped me up when they heard that I was looking for a part-time job! I was promoted to assistant manager this past summer. I was more than excited to be a part of the Portsmouth team, especially because it has made me closer to my boyfriend and Boston - which I try to visit whenever I get the chance.

Describe your personality in three words.

Kind. Eclectic. Loyal.

What's your favorite thing about being an assistant manager?

Being an assistant manager has given me the opportunity to build closer relationships with all of the wonderful ladies & gents who walk through the Bliss doors. We have the best customers and it makes everyday a pleasure!

On a typical work day, you will find me wearing...

High waisted denim and a Splendid, CP Shades, or Velvet top. During the fall, I feel lost without one of my Chan Luu scarves - they are my go to accessory. The tawny portcolor is my favorite, although you can't go wrong with all the color options!

It's (finally) boot season. What pair of Frye boots do you wear most often? And what pair is on your wish list?

I have sworn by my Frye Melissa Button boots in dark brown, but I'm ready to add another pair to my collection. I have my eye on the Jet Engineer Tall! No joke, I'm in love with these boots.

What's your go-to lunch spot in Portsmouth?

Easy! Ceres bakery - just a short walk from the shop. Sandwiches with homemade bread and avocado, count me in! There is always friendly service and smiling faces.

Fall Winds Bring!

Cashmere & Change

I love the possibilities of fall - everything about it channels change. From the most obvious transitions like beach days to school days, to the more subtle changes like the chill at night causing you to reach for that extra blanket. When I was in school, I used to use fall as an excuse to reinvent myself... and my wardrobe. Name a phase and I've probably gone through it at one point. Butterfly clips and awful blue eye-shadow to huge flares whose only necessity was to be big enough to cover up my sneakers. Luckily, I've since moved out of these phases; while I still love to switch up my look every now and again, I'm far more consistent and I've been able to find my style. When it comes to fall, I make sure I'm stocked up in my basics:

Boots- My poor Frye Melissa Button's have seen some serious tough love and I can't wait for my new Lucinda Short's to experience the same devotion.

Scarves - I didn't have a security blanket as a child and I think it has finally caught up with me. Once the bathing suits are packed away, there's rarely a day when I don't have a scarf around my neck. I have my silk/ cashmere Chan Luu's (which are - and I'm not kidding - like wearing a cloud around your neck! They're that soft. I may or may not have a small addiction!) that I wear in constant rotation.

Jeans - Like the rest of the Bliss team, I'm forever a fan of a high-rise. AG's new body the Middi offers the same slim fit of their Leggings but with a higher rise, perfect for tucking into my boots while still allowing me to eat my way through the holidays!

These are pieces that are not only crucial to moving into cooler weather, but if purchased wisely can move with you seamlessly into spring and summer too. Versatility is key. With the change of seasons and change of wardrobe, there comes another change this year.

After 3 amazing years with the Bliss family, countless laughs and many pairs of boots later, I am embarking on a new endeavor. Like all major decisions, this one was not an easy one to make. My job allows me to work with some of the most wonderful, hard-working, sweet & funny people. I get to help women find pieces that outwardly represent who they are. That alone is my favorite part about my job - helping our customers. When a customer comes out of the dressing room smiling and feeling confident, then I did my job.

I'm a stylist, a confidant, a friend, a wrap-dress wrapping machine and sometimes just the strange blonde girl who says "have a great night" at 11am (hey, it can happen...). Bliss has been a second home to me and it will be so weird to leave. I can't wait to come back though. I can't wait to see how far Bliss will go!

So, where am I going? Well, I have the opportunity to move to Brooklyn. It will be strange to trade the tugboats for skyscrapers and what am I going to do without Ceres St Bakery?! Still, Portsmouth will always be home but I truly feel this would be an opportunity I'd regret if I didn't give it a chance.

I'm sorry for the length of this blog post but for those of you who know me, once I start on a roll, I can't stop very easily! I just want to say thank you lastly. Thank you to the best boss I've ever had. Thank you to the best coworkers and thank you to our sweet customers! My last day at Bliss will be this Thursday so please, stop by before then! I'd love to see you.

And if you're ever in New York, look me up!

Cheers,

Erin (Portsmouth Store Manager)

We Love:

Our Citizens of Humanity Jeans

In just 10 short days, we will be kicking off our Citizens of Humanity Trunk Show (in both store locations)! Starting on Thursday, August 22nd and extending through the weekend, our focus will be on DENIM - specifically Citizens of Humanity. And what better way to countdown to the event then by hearing from our Bliss ladies & their favorite picks from the brand.

Our first post is by Kelly, our inventory manager at Bliss. She inspects & processes every pair of jeans that we receive in our stores - so it's no surprise that she knows her denim inside and out!

How long you've worked at Bliss?
I am heading into my 4th fall at Bliss!

Favorite pair of COH jeans?
My favorite Citizens are also a Bliss favorite! They are the Rocket in Crispy - the higher rise and skinny leg are perfect with whatever top I want to wear with them. Plus, I can play with different boots or cute flats.

Favorite way to style your jeans during the summertime?
After a long day at the beach, I love to take a shower and throw on my Rockets with a white tank and airy Chan Luu scarf. I am good to go even if the night cools off.

Looking ahead to fall, how do you plan on wearing them once the colder months hit?
In the fall I will swap my flip flops for cute black ankle booties and a chunky cable knit sweater.

Next purchase from COH?
Since I'm such a fan of the Rocket, I am thinking of getting the same fit in the Midnight Leatherette (go vegetarians!). It would be an amazing way to bring my favorite cut into the fall and holiday seasons!
