Two Exciting New Beginnings

Two Exciting New Beginnings

PORTLAND & KENNEBUNK, Maine — May 15, 2025 — Nearly 23 years after founding women’s clothing boutique Bliss in the heart of Portland's Old Port, owners Angela and John Foddrill are excited to announce two significant developments for their growing retail presence in Maine: the launch of a new dedicated home brand, Baske, and the relocation of their flagship Bliss clothing boutique to an expanded space in Portland's Old Port.

Introducing Baske: A New Home Brand Experience

The Foddrills, who have established a trusted retail presence in Maine with both Bliss and Little, their children's boutique in Portland's Old Port, are now expanding their family of brands with Baske. Drawing on their experience curating quality products across their existing stores, Baske (pronounced “bask”) invites customers to revel in the warmth, comfort, and enjoyment of their homes.

“The name Baske comes from the verb ‘to bask,’ capturing our philosophy that home should be a place where you can truly savor moments and find comfort in intentionally created surroundings,” says Angela Foddrill, co-founder. “At Baske, we're passionate about connecting indoor and outdoor living. Living in New England, we treasure our time outdoors and believe in blurring the lines between inside and outside spaces. This philosophy is at the heart of how we select pieces.”

The Baske Portland location will open early summer at 42 Exchange Street, the former home of Bliss Portland’s store. This location will showcase Baske's carefully selected collection of beautiful homewares, drawing inspiration from Maine's distinctive coastal lifestyle. The store will carry a variety of brands, including Business and Pleasure Co, Sunday Supply Co, Saarde, Immodest Cotton, Flamingo Estate, Serax, Rosie Jane, and many more. A moving sale at 42 Exchange Street will be held May 31 and June 1 from 10AM-4PM.

The original Baske location in Kennebunk will transition to the new brand identity while maintaining its proximity next door to Bliss Kennebunk at 184 Port Road. An opening event/open house for both locations is slated after opening.

Bliss Relocates to Expanded Portland Location

Simultaneously, the flagship Portland Bliss location will be relocating to a larger, newly renovated space at 119 Middle Street in the Old Port. The expanded location, set to open May 29, will provide an enhanced shopping experience for Bliss customers.

“This move represents an exciting evolution for Bliss,” says John Foddrill, co-founder. “The larger space allows us to showcase more of the premium clothing and accessory brands our customers have come to love, while creating a more comfortable and inviting shopping environment.”

Brand Philosophies Complement Each Other

While distinct in their offerings, all three Foddrill-owned brands—Bliss, Little, and now Baske—share core values: aesthetically refined, high-quality products chosen with an expert eye. Each brand emphasizes longevity over disposability and authenticity over trends.

Baske's interior aesthetic will reflect a modern, clean, and colorful environment, offering customers ample space to discover unique items. The brand focuses on bringing the outdoors in and the indoors out, creating seamless living spaces that transition naturally between interior and exterior environments.

“We're thrilled to introduce Baske as a sister brand to Bliss and Little,” adds Angela Foddrill. “All three brands are rooted in the idea that everyday items—whether clothing, children's goods, or homewares—should be special, beautiful, and of lasting quality.”
